This study reports a new fossil species of the bryozoan genus Stephanollona for the Chenque Formation (Lower–Middle Miocene),
Patagonia, Argentina. Stephanollona ricoae sp. nov. is the first fossil representative of this genus in South America. Only one native living species, S. longispinata, is known in the Southwest Atlantic off Argentina. The new species differs from most known species of Stephanollona in lacking avicularian dimorphism, having only one or two small, rounded avicularia with smooth rostra per zooid. This new finding extends the stratigraphic range of Stephanollona in Argentina from the Miocene (Burdigalian–early Langhian) to the present.
