GMELINMAGAS PLICATA, NUEVO BRAQUIOPODO TERCIARIO DE PATAGONIA Y SU ATRIBUCION A TEREBRATELLA DORSATA GM.
Abstract
A new genus of Terebratellidae King, Gmelinmagas, found in Sarita Cruz and Chubut, usually referred to Terebratella dorsata Gm. is described. A discussion is presented on the fundamental differences of both these forms. The characters which distinguish the new genus are the dense shell ·having only anterior ribs and a short partition wall forked up to 1/3 of its length forming an evident cardinal sinus with the crural bases. Gmelinmagas corresponds to the Neothyiinae, having a less pronounced morphology than the other known genera of the group. The available data up to now seem to confirm the absence of Tertiary brachiopods of Patagonia among living representatives of the g1:oup in the adjacent coasts.Downloads
