LA FAUNA DEL ORDOVICICO (ASHGILLIANO) DE VILLICUN, SAN JUAN, ARGENTINA. (BRACHIOPODA)
Abstract
Five brachiopod genera of Asghillian age are described from Sierra de Villicún, San Juan Province: Fascijera, Arenortbis, Bagnorthis nov. gen., Kjaerina (Neokiaerina) nov. subgen., and Villieundella nov. gen. This is the first mention of Asghillian beds in South America, and consequently in Argentine. Villicundella is believed to have given rise to the subfamily Proschizophoriinae. Sphenophragmus is removed from the Draboviinae, and together with Bagnorthis and Schizophoria is assigned to the Schizophoriinae. Schizophoriiane are believed to be derived from Bagnorthis, the oldest member of the subfamily. Arenorthis is removed from the subfamilily Heterorthinae, and is included in the Prosphoriinae by the morphology of the pedide muscle field. The subgenus Neokjaerina is considered an ancestor of Kjaerina (Kiaerina).Downloads
