AbstractTetragonostylops apthomasi (PRICE AND PAULA COUTO, 1950): ITS ASSIGNMENT TO STRAPOTHERIIDAE(MAMMALIA; ASTRAPOTHERIA. ) - Tetragonostylops apthomasi (Price and Paula Cauto, 1950) is regarded as the most primitive and ancient Astrapotheriidae known, which is supported by studíed specimens of Astrapotheria from Itaboraí, Río de janeiro, Brasil (Riochican age) and Chubut, Argentina (Casamayoran age). It is considered as the structural ancestor of both Albertogaudrya 's species and Scaglia kraglievichorum Simpson, 1957.
