UNA NUEVA EQUISETAL DEL TRIASICO DE CACHEUTA, ARGENTINA, CON ESTRUCTURA INTERNA PRESERVADA
Abstract
In this paper an anatomical and morphological study of a new taxonomic entity belonging to the Order Equisetales: Nododendron suberosum gen. nov. et sp. is presented. N. suberosum is characterized by a stem with a central parenchymatous pith, cornpact secondary xylern of Arthroxylon type, conspicuous secondary phloem and a well developed cortical zone with secondary growth. The external surface shows longitudinal striation and nodes from which whorles of branches and leaves of Asterophyllites type are born. The importance of this finding lies in the fact that it certifies the presence of secondary growth in mesozoic Equisetaleans. The absence of medular casts and related fructifications prevents a determination at the Family level.Downloads
