Abstract

A general review of the significant evolutionary questions that raise the nature and origin of higher taxa are presented in this paper. Which is the ontological status of supraspecific taxa? Which is the pattern of time diversity shown by the fossil record? What factors are the causes of adaptive radiations? How do the evolutionary novelties emerge? The answers to these questions bear new problems that lead to study in depth the macroevolutionary theories.
