EL PRIMER NOTOHIPPIDAE (MAMMALIA, NOTOUNGULATA) DE LA FORMACION LUMBRERA (GRUPO SALTA) DEL NOROESTE ARGENTINO. CONSIDERACIONES SOBRE LA SISTEMÁTICA DE LA FAMILIA NOTOHIPPIDAE
Abstract
THE FIRST NOTOHIPPIDAE (MAMMALIA, NOTOUNGULATA) FROM THE LUMBRERA FORMATION OF NORTHWESTERN ARGENTINA. CONSIDERATIONS ON THE SYSTEMATICS OF THE FAMILY NOTOHIPPIDAE. The first Notohippidae (Notoungulata, Toxodonta) from the Lumbrera Formation (Salta Group, Santa Bárbara Subgroup) in Northwestern Argentina. Pampahippus arenalesi gen et sp. nov. is described. Its brachydont and closed teeth, entoconids isolated in p3-p4, persistent paraconids on m1-m3 suggests that it is a primitive member of the family Notohippidae. The taxonomical affinities of some Patagonian Notoungulata genera traditionally considered Isotemnidae (e.g. Acoelohyrax, Coelostylodon and Puelia) are reviewed and regarded as Notohippidae.Downloads
