I am a Researcher at the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Cientificas y Tecnicas (CONICET) and a Teaching Assistant at the University of Mar del Plata (UNMdP). My primary research interest is understanding the value of diatoms as proxies for reconstructing past changes in Quaternary freshwater environments. I combine taphonomy and paleoecology to assess how accurately is diatom assemblage composition and structure captured by the fossil record. My main research lines include the study of diatom distribution along environmental gradients and its utility for the building of transfer functions, the study of diatom preservation in different environmental settings, and its impact on paleoenvironmental inferences (actualistic taphonomy), and the diatom-based reconstruction of Holocene environments.
