UN NUEVO PROTEROCHAMPSIDAE (REPTILIA - ARCHOSAURIFORMES) DE LA FAUNA LOCAL DE LOS CHAÑARES (TRIASICO MEDIO), LA RIOJA, ARGENTINA
Abstract
A new archosauriform Tropidosuchus romeri gen. el sp. nov. is described. This reptile is part of the Los Chanañers local fauna, from the Middle Triassic of La Rioja, Argentina. The main morphological differences between this genus and other known proterochampsids are: a) les ser incIination of the quadrate; e) cervical vertebrae longer than dorsals; e) femur as long as tibia; d) asymmctrical foot by enlargement of the metatarsal II and metatarsallV longer than the others; e) transversal extention of the astragalus; f) large dermal scutes, one per vertebrae, with middorsal keel. Within the group, Tropidosuchus shares some features with Chanaresuchus and Gualosuchus, from the same local fauna, but because of the presence of some derived character states (a, b, e, d, e) the former could represent a more advanced condition.Downloads
